1. How do your cooking classes work and what are the age restrictions?
Well Done is offering cooking classes in a home at 1208 East 29th Street in the Heights near 610 North and I-45 (see the calendar page for a list of classes). We provide ingredients, recipes, any music and necessary equipment. All classes encourage hands on involvement. Once everything is ready, we get to sit down and eat everything we've worked on and discuss our triumphs and travails. Fun is encouraged to the maximum. We're also proud to offer private classes here or in the comfort of your own home/facility where we bring everything we need to conduct a class for an individual, a couple or even a group in your home or adequate facility. All fees, for both private in-home instruction and classes in the Chef's kitchen, are due one full week prior to your scheduled class date, along with the correct number of individuals attending the class. The minimum age for certain classes is 12, while most are only open to 18 and up. Please call to see if your child may attend the class of your choice.
2. Do I need special equipment for these classes?
Well Done's kitchen has all of the latest appliances, cookware and utensils, so there will be nothing necessary to bring. All we ask is that you wear closed toe shoes for your own safety, and comfortable, but not loose, clothing. If we come to you for a private class, we will provide any unusual equipment necessary to complete the class. After a brief phone or email discussion, we can determine the needed equipment we should bring for your class.
3. What's included in your cooking class?
Well Done will provide the best ingredients, recipes, music and entertainment. Some class materials will be available for purchase, like our wine glasses, like sushi rolling mats, nifty aprons, or our Forschner knives. There will always be plenty of food to eat, so come hungry. We do not provide wine with classes unless noted, but we do encourage bringing your own bottle. We work with some great wine bars who could offer pairing suggestions. We also have soft drinks for sale.
4. How much do your cooking classes cost?
Public classes vary in pricing from $59 to $99, with the majority of our classes priced at $59 or $69. Knife Skills and most baking classes are $59, while most Dinner Party and Specialty classes are either $59 or $69. Classes in which we offer a tasting of wines or beers with the class courses are $79-$99. Pricing is based on the length of the class and a few other factors.
Please visit the Class Schedule/Calendar section of the website to see our current public classes and their prices. Click here for Private Class Pricing
5. When will you post your new calendar?
Please click here for the latest calendar. Well Done posts the calendar on the 1st and the 3rd Mondays of each month. Our calendar will show a month and a half out from the most recent posting. Ex. It's March 15th, so the remainder of March from the 15th and all of April's schedule will be posted on the web site.
6. How does Well Done determine what classes go on the calendar? If there is a class from the Classes Offered page that I would like to take and I do not see it on the calendar, when can I expect to see it offered?
Well Done currently offers over 100 different classes throughout the year and we are always adding more. We try to put certain classes that are the most popular with clients on the calendar every month i.e. 30 Minute Meals (1 or 2), Sushi Rolling, Knife Skills, and Cooking Fundamentals 1 or 2. Other classes are offered based on either the ingredients (if there is a certain seasonality to the dishes offered i.e. Dinner in Provence or weather temperature required i.e. Chocolate x3) or we just purposely offer them based on a rolling two or three month basis to offer variety to our customers. Some classes are simply offered only once or twice a year due to a minimal amount of interest or specific holidays they revolve around i.e. Mardi Gras, Turkey Three Ways, Holiday Appetizers, Vegetarian 1 or 2 etc. If there is a class you would like to see offered, we listen to all feedback from our customers. Feel free to email us us your requests and we will definitely take them into consideration when planning future calendars.
7. How do I register for classes?
Whether you are purchasing a class for yourself, for someone else, or using Gift Certificates or special Coupons, you must Create an Account. After creating your account, go to the Class Schedule/Calendar page and choose a class that interests you and works with your schedule, then click "Sign Me Up."
There are three steps to the check out process. After clicking "Sign me up," you will be redirected to a page entitled Step 1. On this page, you will need to decide the number of seats you would like for the class (1, 2, 3, etc.) Update this number accordingly to show the correct number of seats desired. Then click "Checkout."
NOTE: If you have more than one coupon that you would like to apply to your check out, you must select only 1 seat at a time. You will then need to repeat the check out process to apply each of your additional coupons.
Next, you will be redirected to Step 2. It is on this page you will need to check the number of seats again and also check the total. If everything is in order and the total charges are correct, you will then need to enter your credit card information. Make sure you check the boxes agreeing to our Cancellation Policy and our minimum age requirements. Then click Checkout again, redirecting you to Step 3.
If you would like to apply a Gift Certificate purchased through Well Done, then you will need to enter your Gift Certificate code into the box entitled "Gift Certificates." Do not put any spaces between the numbers and/or letters. Hit enter, the page will refresh and the Gift Certificate box will go away. Your new total should be corrected to reflect the value of the Gift Certificate. If there is nothing owed, the Credit Card information box will also go away. All you will need to do is check the boxes agreeing to our cancellation policy and our age policy and then click "Check Out." If there is a nominal amount owed after applying the Gift Certificate, the Credit Card box will remain visible and you will then need to enter your information, check the boxes if you agree to our cancellation and age restriction policy, then click "Check Out" again. You will be redirected to Step 3.
If you would like to apply a Coupon purchased through a third party or a special offered by Well Done, then you will need to enter your Coupon code into the box directly below the "Gift Certificate" box. This box is entitled "Coupons." You will need to enter your coupon code exactly as it is written, with no spaces. Make sure your "0's" are not actually "O's." Once you enter your coupon code, hit enter and the coupon box will go away. This is why you can only enter one coupon code at a time. Check your subtotal. Should it be zero or is the amount the same as before? If it is the latter, then perhaps your coupon is no longer valid. Is there a nominal amount owed rather than the total being zero? Either you have a chosen a class that is worth slightly more than your coupon, or your coupon is no longer worth the promotional price and you must pay the difference. Once the subtotal is correct, if it is zero, then the credit card box will go away. If an amount is indeed owed, only then should you enter your credit card info! Do not enter your credit card information if you do not want to be charged the price you see because it is incorrect. If you do so, we reserve the right to charge a $5 per seat processing fee for all refunds. Please call us immediately at 832-782-3518 to help you with your reservation. If everything is in order and you must pay a difference, then enter your credit card information, check the boxes if you agree to our cancellation policy and minimum age requirements, and then click "Check Out" again. You will be redirected Step 3, the final page.
"Step 3" where you will check your receipt, confirm the class choice, the number of seats, and the amount charged (if any) to your credit card. Does everything look in order? Please call us at 832-782-3518 or email us immediately if there are any problems.
8. Can I request a special class/menu for my private class?
Absolutely! The private classes were designed with this in mind. We know some of you have special diets or concerns. We really try to please, so if a special diet is something we can incorporate in any of our classes, we will be happy to do this. Please be sure to call and email us explaining your diet constraints and we will make a note in our roster for that date.
We are also happy to work with individuals in discussing the perfect class for you and your event. See the next question below to get an understanding of our private classes. Please contact Well Done at least two weeks, or more, prior to your event.
9. Do you offer classes for corporate or private parties?
Yes! Well Done is happy to design a class for your corporate team building or celebratory function. We can bring the class to you, or we can hold the class in our facility depending on the class size. Also, we love to design memorable bachelorette, birthday, and holiday parties. Depending on the type of class and the skill of the attendees, it usually takes at least two to sometimes three hours from the start of the class until you get to sit down and eat. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your private class time. We encourage starting no later than 5 or 6 for evening classes. Also, as with any cooking, your kitchen will get a bit messy. We try to help you clean as you go along, but we are experts in cooking and are not that good at cleaning to be honest! Thus, we encourage hiring an extra person to help clean up or we can hire someone for you. Just let us know. For private parties, we suggest two possible formats:
1. This format involves first picking out your dishes or theme. Then, at the party we pair individuals up and ask them to choose only one of the many different recipes to work on for that evening. This class is still totally hands on, but not everyone gets to make the same dish. We have found at some parties there are those individuals who are more advanced than others and are more interested in participating, while others just want to socialize. Based on the menu requests or theme, some recipes will be more difficult and others will be easier. Those at the party who truly want to participate can choose the advanced recipes, while others can pick the easier, less involved recipes. This format typically ensures a quicker class and the best way to maintain interest. After every dish has been completed, we sit down and each pair discusses how they made their dish and the problems they encountered. Everyone of course gets to eat and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Also, everyone walks away with all of the recipes for that evening.
2. This format also starts off picking out your recipes or theme. However, at the party we are usually limited to making only two to three (occasionally four) dishes at a time because everyone will be making the same recipes. This is the format most similar to our public classes. Everyone gets to see how and make the dishes in the class and ask as many questions as necessary. This class is best for those who are all truly interested in cooking everything we discuss. It's important to really get a sense of the interest of those who will be attending your party. We want it to be as successful and as fun as possible, so make sure you have good dialogue with your guests. Please call us today to discuss what we can do for you!
10. Are the public classes hands-on or does the chef prepare everything while I watch?
Well Done is adamant about getting our clients involved in the process. Other than demonstrating a technique, you are the chefs for the night! We feel it's the best way to learn and retain what we're teaching you. We hope that you will be using what you've learned in our classes for years to come.
11. Do you offer gift certificates and How do I print them?
Of course! Click here to be redirected to our Gift Certificates' page. No need to wait to receive your Gift Certificate in the mail or make your way through traffic to drop by to pick up your Gift Certificates. You can print them directly from your account. You can even include the name of the person on the Gift Certificate, then print it on nice card stock or maybe even get it laminated for that special touch.
Please note that if you have trouble printing your Gift Certificate, please make sure that your Print settings for your browser has "Print Background" checked. It may be under "Internet Options" or "File" then "Printer Settings, "depending on the web browser you are using.12. How does the Cooking Club Membership work?
Well Done is lucky to have great customers who come back every month for one, two, sometimes more classes! So, to reward them we have started a Cooking Club Membership. Essentially, with one one-year membership, you get 12 classes for the price of 9. If you buy two one-year memberships, you get 24 classes for the price of 18! You can pay your membership up front or on a monthly basis with Paypal. You get the first chance to look at the new calendar before everybody else and choose your classes. If you cannot make it to a class one month, you can give it to a friend or let it roll over into the next month. It is just that easy. Soon, we plan to add many other perks to the membership club. Click here to find out more.
13. What kind of payment do you accept?
We accept checks and credit cards through our secure server by Go Daddy and Chase Paymentech. Chase Paymentech is a secure system through Chase Bank that conveniently allows you pay by Visa, Mastercard, or Discover. Occasionally, we also use Paypal for the Cooking Club monthly membership fees. All fees are due one full week prior to your class date. Checks must be received one week prior to the class to allow for processing. There is a $30 fee for all returned checks.
Well Done's Executive Chef is Celeste Terrell and she teaches most all cuisine based classes. Kathryn Herod, co-owner, also teaches classes and focuses on pastries. We have several other chefs who work with us on occasion. Click here to read the chef's bios.
15. What if I have food allergies?
Please note this when you sign up for classes during the check out process and please call ahead to discuss your food related allergies. If possible, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
16. What do I need to bring to the class?
Well Done provides all of the necessary food items to conduct the class. You will be able to see and print recipes from within your account, 48 hours prior to the scheduled class. It is not necessary to bring them unless you would like to take notes. Simply bring yourself and your willingness to have fun and learn. We will recommend a wine/beer for you to bring to your class.
17. Do you offer discounts for large groups?
Large groups are considered 20 or more persons. Depending on the class conducted, we may be able to offer a break in the pricing per person. However, more people usually requires more chefs and therefore more money. Please contact us to discuss your needs further.
18. How much food do I get to eat in class (should I come hungry)?
Well Done knows that working with food makes one hungry! That's why we like to make sure there's plenty of food available at the end of class for everyone to try. In our cooking classes, tasting is always encouraged. So, yes, come hungry!
Well Done does not provide any alcohol for most of these classes, unless it is part of a tasting menu class. We encourage our clients to bring a bottle [ or more :-) ] of wine or other preferred beverage to enjoy with your creations. We do have bottled water and soft drinks available for purchase.
20. What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel your reservations, you are entitled to:
- a full credit 72 hours (3 full days) prior to your class
- no credit after 72 hours prior to your class
- sorry, but we do not issue refunds, only credits for other classes.
When you purchase a class to hold your seat, you are agreeing that you have a full understanding of our cancellation policy. If there are less than twelve people registered for the class, we have the right to cancel the class.
This cancellation policy applies to public and private cooking classes. Unless we have received 100% of fees owed for the class you wish to take, you have not actually reserved a seat. We cannot guarantee a seat in one of our classes without a 100% deposit.
"I liked the smaller classes and felt I learned so much already. It was a great experience! It was a very relaxing and friendly cooking environment! I will definitely be back!"
